Understanding the CEFR: Your Guide to Language Proficiency 

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is a globally recognized standard for assessing language proficiency. It provides a clear and comprehensive description of a learner's linguistic ability in foreign languages beyond their native tongue, ensuring accurate evaluation for effective communication. 

Developed through extensive European expertise in language learning, teaching, and assessment, the CEFR serves as a structured guide to define language proficiency across Europe and worldwide. With centuries of experience in foreign language education integrated into its framework, the CEFR was officially established in 2001 to assess the linguistic capabilities of non-native speakers.

This system introduces six reference levels—A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2—which have become the universal standard for measuring individual language proficiency in learning, teaching, and evaluation.
